Wild Turkeys

With the weather so nice the activity around the backyard bird feeders was really quiet so I went and sat in the woods early yesterday morning. I watched a group of 16 turkeys feeding for an hour and a half before they finally came close enough for pictures. This one put on a bit of a display before it and the others went on their way. One thing I noticed as they were all very close to me is that there wasn't a single adult "Tom" in the bunch. The only beard I saw was only about an inch long. Just wondering if anybody knows if the Toms generally keep their distance from the females and young at this time of the year?
