Re(1): Western Grebes in Simcoe

The Nov 2006 (Minet's Pt) report is interesting. Here is what I had entered into e-bird for an observation on Oct 21, 2006:

"I was kayaking in n. Lake Simcoe. Not far from McCrae Point (Barnstable Bay) I saw what I am certain was a Western Grebe. Conditions were partly cloudy, calm wind, waves well under 0.5 m. Since I was in a kayak I was able to come within about 10 m or less of the bird. It was alone, separate from other waterfowl. About 300+ m offshore. Traveling ne. Aprox. 10 am. Saw it for about a total of 3 min. Did not use my binocs. Long white neck, black head and nape, thin bill, red eyes. Watched it dive a couple of times, before I had to move on. This is the first time I''ve seen a W. Grebe." (Unfortunately, being in a kayak, I did not have a waterproof camera with me... so my report is unconfirmed).
