Evren was well aware that Vita Nova had left earlier in the day, and thus she felt no surprise when the figure of the bi-colored mare appeared from the west, with the sea and the setting sun at her back. The filly answered Vita's polite greeting with a soft nicker of her own, before averting her eyes to pretend as though she was not interested in where the mare had been.
Rather than continuing on, however, Vita Nova surprised Evren by making straight for her to engage her in conversation.
The filly's heart lifted with pleasure at this change in circumstance. Though she was as tall as Vita Nova (and would grow even taller in time), she had not quite reached maturity and it gave her a small boost in confidence to see full-grown Vita finally addressing her as an equal. She felt validated, and her warm brown eyes shone with cordiality as they studied the mare before her.
"Sometimes," she admitted, casting a glance out across the sands. The dying light had left smears of pink and peach in the sky, which cast a warm orange glow across the land. "Not when it's as beautiful as this, though. How was your secret expedition?" Evren turned her gaze back toward her companion and suppressed a wry smirk.
