Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The she-wolf bright as blood had ventured down from the woodlands to the North the past few days. It had made her uncomfortable, leaving the place of familiarity so akin to her homelands, but she’d done it anyway. She’d been presently surprised to hear and smell the ocean after she crossed over the river. It was an unprecedented experience in her life to feel the mist of the sea, salty and foamy, splash in her face or tingle her nose. She’d enjoyed an evening wandering the shoreline before retreating to the trees for the night to hunt for whatever she could, be it fresh meat or scavenged. She’d smelled another wolf in the area, but that wasn’t so unusual given that something about this land seemed to captivate her species, gravitating to the region in perhaps copious amounts. She merely tried to maintain a respectful distance, though the area was not thick with the scent of a pack.

She wasn’t too far though when her oversized ears caught the sound of the cougar, followed by a wolfish snarl. If she debated coming to the aide of a fellow wolf, she didn’t think long. Her persona was naturally haughty and hostile, craving a sort of violence and danger. She was automatically defensive of her immediate surroundings. Wherever she went was hers for the moment, and a cougar prowling around would simply not due. Her long legs, longer than most, immediately sprang towards the commotion, covering the terrain swiftly in sweeping strides due to her agile and streamlined frame.

Her green eyes caught sight of the pair, the feline and lupine struggling to catch the other, and leapt through some brush to land a several feet from the cat low on her haunches. Her crimson fur stood on end, bristling with anger and aggression. Her shiny, pearly whites were barred and grim, gleaming in the moonlight as she anticipated the next move of both the cougar and the other wolf.
