At long last, summer had come to Moladion. It wasn't the harsh, deadly summer of the previous year, but a pleasantly hot, thriving summer. The children of Asteraia, both predator and prey, were growing big and strong and things were well with the pack. And yet, Halcyon couldn't shake that something was wrong. Terribly wrong. It had started as a low hum in a way. It nagged at the back of his mind and slowly made it's way to his heart. A strange sense of mourning had overcome him and he could not rid himself of the feeling, no matter how hard he tried. The new alpha had excused himself from his mate's side and made his way along the borders of his pack, making sure the boundaries were well marked.
Her call echoed across the rolling hills. It moved solemnly through the tall grass until it entered his ears. Everything stopped in that instant. The borders would have to wait. His soul needed him and he could only answer her pleads. Racing across the hills as fast as his paws would carry him, he found her easily. She was alone and crying, her tears silently watering the grass beneath her. Halcyon slowed his approach, his heart aching for her pain. A small whimper left his throat, for he knew what she was feeling. He had felt it with his own parents, then again when Aster lost hers. And now, he was feeling it all over again with his imprint. Only with her, it was much more intense.
"Solstice..." he whispered softly. Moving carefully, he pressed himself to her side, offering what little comfort he could offer. There was nothing to be said. She would tell him what had happened in time. For now, he was just there for her, offering her support in her time of need and protecting her from any who would dare take advantage of a wolf in distress. In this moment, there was nothing but the two of them, the pair that Fate had decided were meant for each other. Each one holding the soul of the other. Even Aster had been placed on the back burner while he focused on Solstice in her time of need.
