all alone just the beat inside my soul
where my dreams are made of gold
She never wished the worst on anyone, not now, not ever. She supposed that was part of the personality she got from her dad. Always worried, always thinking that things could be worse than they were. Over the years she’d always wondered what he was like, what he had been like before. Before he died. Momma never got over that. Jubilee thought that was why she had taken off. Maybe she was finding answers somewhere. Maybe she was just gone for good. Whatever it was, broke Jubilee’s heart to not know what was going on with her mother. Maybe that was why she was so distant from her brothers lately. She just didn’t click with them as much as she did with her momma.
She was never going to deliberately poison someone, not unless they hurt her or someone she loved. Or unless she was under attack by any predator. She’d figured she could roll on the mushrooms, letting the oils seep onto her skin and fur. Only to have them ingest it. She knew ways to make it easy to get off, not that it would make her smell pretty, but she’d planned things in case she ever needed an escape route from something. Looking back to Thor, she smiled softly as she thought of her mother and the things she’d been taught.
He said momma sounded paranoid, and with she shook her head. “Momma was the sane one. She said daddy was more paranoid, skeptic of others. I guess I got that from him. He died before I was born so I wouldn’t know. Momma—she’s left now so I cant really say she’s sane anymore I guess.” she sighed, her mind slipping to her brothers. Well, Collateral brothers. They were of the same blood from Mom, as was Aureila, but Jubilee’s dad was Sabriel, while theirs was Nathaniel. Different in many ways. She didn’t know how to connect with them, not lately at least. She missed the connection with them. Maybe one day she’d get that back.
She was drawn back with his words, and she laughed, a soft, sweet sound that she just couldn’t help. “And if I am Thor? What are you going to do!?” a grin spread across her lips as she looked at him, her bright pink eyes twinkling in the darkness. He spoke again, and while yes, he was right it was better to see the better things in life, Anemone had taught her to be weary, until she could trust.
“I do my best to see the best in the world, but I fear trusting too soon, I think that’s why I would rather be prepared than caught unaware.” she spoke softly, her eyes drifting downwards. He spoke again, and Jubilee shook her head. “Unless you plan on ingesting the mucus of the mushroom or the frills, you’re fine. I wont poison you.”
