Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

He couldn't know what it felt like to have an imprint and then lose them. That choice was taken from him the day he was born but he didn't let it get him down. He would still find happiness somehow, just not with the other half of his soul. He liked to believe that it meant his soul was already whoel but he knew better. He had never been normal and wondered if he was damaged because he couldn't imprint. Maybe Fate had decided that someone like him, a monster, shouldn't have a soul mate. Maybe it made the choice for him, but he wouldn't focus on that. She seemed to be handling the grief of his abandoment pretty well, considering. She was strong though; she always had been in his opinion. There was the up side that she didn't say her imprint had died, only that he left. So maybe that meant that he was alive wherever he was and there was a chance of him returning for her. If only the world worked like that. Tuari deserved to be happy.

He wondered what Tuari wanted for herself, for her future. Did she cry herself to sleep at night thinking she would never find true love and have the family she had always dreamed of? Would she want to make herself busy around the pack and move up in the ranks or was she happy just being around others and making friends? Each wolf was different and wanted different things. He wished sometimes that they had an easier way to communicate, that she could just open up to him and tell him all her hopes, dreams, and aspirations. He wanted to know how to help her, comfort her. When he apologized for her loss, she shook her head and he could see the look in her eyes that told him she didn't want his sympathy. She would get it anyway because that's what friends are for but he would do a better job of hiding it. She seemed surprised when he mentioned venting to him and coming to his den at any time. He hadn't thought about it in the romantic way or anything but she was his friend and he wanted to be there for her. A friend doesn't have an appointment schedule.

He didn't know how her relationship with her imprint had been and how close they'd been but obviously it was enough for it to break her heart when he left her. He didn't know if she'd ever been close with anyone else. He didn't know enough of her past or family to know how close they'd been or if she would even be comfortable curling up next to anyone at night. He just figured she might be lonely on her own. He watched her move her paw around in the dirt and he lowered his gaze until he could see her face, his voice soft.

"HEY, DID I SAY SOMETHING WRONG?"

He had to know and at least this was a simple yes or no question. There was a flicker of some kind of emotion in her eyes when he said that he didn't have a mate. He could have sworn it was relief but he wasn't going to bet on it. He knew that Tuari only wanted the best for him. She wanted him happy. She tilted her head when he tried to tell her what he was doing but chose his words carefully. There was a spark of intelligence in his eyes that told him she knew he wasn't telling the whole story but luckily he distracted her a little by bringing the tree climbing. Her tail wagged and she gave him a mischeveous look like she was looking forward to teaching him but apparently there was a catch. She mouthed a question to him and he scowled thoughtfully, wondering how to handle this one. She wanted more specifics about what he did. Could he tell her? It's not like she could go running to tell anyone but at the same time, he didn't want to change the way she looked at him. Besides, she had other ways to communicate. What if she told her family or someone else who knew how to listen to her like he did?

He shifted his weight restlessly, his tail swishing against his flanks as he took a deep breathe then looked at her.

"I...REMOVE SOME OF THE DARKNESS. YOU REMEMBER WOLVES LIKE TOBIAS? YOU REMEMBER HOW SCARED EVERYONE WAS THAT HE WOULD KILL ANOTHER PUP, TARGET ANOTHER INNOCENT LIFE FOR THE SAKE OF HIS OWN HUNGER? I....I HUNT WOLVES LIKE THAT, TUARI."

His gaze softened as he tried to read her expression, wanting to know how she felt about this. He figured she would be worried about him but would she tell him that it wasn't his job to do that? That he was in over his head? She probably wouldn't recognize him in his element. When he focused on tracking a killer and stalked them to their hideout..he became a different wolf. That's why he liked to be alone. No one would recognize the monster inside of him if they saw it. His dark passenger took over and he was pulled along like a puppet in those times and yet he never felt so in control than when he had a known murderer paralyzed and lying helpless on the cold ground before him, whimpering and begging for their lives while they witnessed all the chaos they had caused, all the lives they cut short. Then he got to show them what their victims saw, the merciless torture of their bodies until they could take no more. Then he gave them death. He was worried what she would picture when she thought of him going toe to toe with wolves like Tobias. He had been the nightmare of Moladian at one point and Dexter had managed to make his son his very first kill. It was sloppy and not planned and he didn't cover his tracks and he made mistakes. He learned from them though.

Once he gave it time for that to sink in, Tuari's gaze wandered and he tried to follow it, seeing her checking out trees and his lips tugged into the shadow of a smirk. She was going to teach him about climbing again. He remembered that he did horribly the first time but they never got to finish their lesson. This time he would stick to it. Climbing trees can only come in handy when you're stalking those that are used to doing the stalking right? She bounced over to a tree and urged for him to follow so he stood and did so with a light chuckle, liking her energy. But then she turned to him, asking him if he had any stories and he looked down, smirking sheepishly. Surely she didn't want to hear about his hunts, but that's all he did for the longest time when he left. He grew addicted to the rush and when he wasn't hunting, he was studying herbs to make the hunting easier. He stopped at the base of the tree and took a deep breath.

"NOT THE KIND YOU CAN USE AS A BEDTIME STORY. WHAT I DO...IT'S NOT PRETTY. IT'S NOT HEROIC. IT'S NOT SOMETHING MY FAMILY WOULD BE PROUD OF. IT'S JUST SOMETHING THAT I LEARNED TO DO WHEN I WAS YOUNG. SOMETHING I BECAME GOOD AT. I WANTED TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE, BUT IT'S NOT A STORY I CAN TELL WITHOUT CRINGING BECAUSE A PART OF ME IS ASHAMED THAT THIS IS WHO I HAVE BECOME."

He looked at her, once again trying to read her expression as he opened up to her. His eyes were sad in this moment. He'd always thought there was something wrong with him. Even as a pup when he started his addiction with blood and being able to read it, he thought he had a defect. The fact that he's unable to imprint only helped push that idea. How could someone like him ever be the good guy in a story? He couldn't see any way.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
