After the cougar attack, Halcyon had been patrolling the boarders of Asteraia with Panzer and the others almost none stop. He was exhausted, his gait slow and wobbly, but he continued on his way, constantly stopping to mark a bush or a patch of grass. Though, it was pointless. There really was no stopping the beasts once they had it in their minds to trespass. They were nothing like wolves. The scent markers did little to deter them when they were hungry. Taking a moment to rest, the alpha yawned deeply and blinked slowly, each time his eyelids growing more and more heavy. But, each time his eyes closed, he saw that horrible cat. Its fangs covered in blood, holding the corpse of one of his kin. Shaking his head, Halcyon vowed he would never let that happened. Standing up, he continued on his way.
If it hadn't been for the howl, the king would have missed that a new wolf had entered his lands. Pricking his ears up, he tried to pinpoint where the sound was coming from, not realizing exactly who it was. In his tired mind, he only knew it was a threat that had to be dealt with. With a tail held high, he trotted away from the edge of the pack towards the howl. Moments later, brown eyes watched a dark wolfess dart by, completely ignoring him. Blinking several times, Halcyon realized it had been his mate (it still made his heart flutter to call her that) who had ran past. "Aster!" he called, but was ignored. Maybe she hadn't heard him? Something was wrong.
Changing course, he bolted after her, her tail still bounding over the tall grass. Only, she suddenly vanished completely. Startled, and thinking the worst, Halcyon pushed himself to run faster. He, too, nearly tripped over the young prince, if not for the voice of Aster to give him some warning. Skidding to a halt, Halcyon's exhausted brain took several minutes to understand what he was seeing. As it started to make sense, his tail began to wag and a weight was lifted from his shoulders. At long last, after months of worry and frustration, Aster and Lazarus were reunited.
Sinking to belly, Halcyon remained quiet for a moment as he let the siblings greet each other. So much had happened, they both deserved that. The russet wolf was not blind to the state of Lazarus. He was in bad shape and he smelled of illness. Standing up and teetering slightly, and stepped forward. "I'm so glad you're safe, Lazarus. Tell me, did you come with Undyne?" Curious to know what the duo had been through, the king was eager to see the warrior who had fought so bravely to protect the prince. Halcyon desperately wanted to apologize to her and, if she wanted, offer her a home in Asteraia. He didn't want to bombard the poor lad with questions, but he had to know.
