Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP FOR DEATH

"The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

The girl was restless, her paws once again itching for purpose. Aranck was dead, Pine had taken up the mantle of alphess and her work was done. There was a sense of satisfaction in completing her assignment, but there was also a sense of longing. It had been exhilarating and she felt as though she was truly making a difference, truly helping both her pack and the rest of the wolves in Moladion as well. But now there was nothing. All Ceres had now was a broken family and a promise of a promotion when she came of age. Her heart still ached for her mother and the younger siblings she would never meet, but she was able to push the emotions away when she needed to, and she was beginning to feel more and more detached from the natural empathy a pup possessed.

Perhaps apathetic was not the right word for it. It was more like emotional cynicism, and it would have bothered her if she could bring herself to care about anything other than her work. Ceres still had that spark, that drive to succeed, but it was tempered by the very fact that she had succeeded. She could always work to get better, but the improvement would likely only be noticed by her. Zelda already found her good enough to hold a position of power within the pack, and although Ceres would never be content with 'good enough' perhaps she had realized that she was miles above many other wolves her age. It was both disquieting and a boost to her ego.

She headed out of Taviora today, needing to remove herself from the memories contained there. Morrigan's grave was made only more melancholic by the fact that it was the den she had been born in, the den she had grown up in, the place that contained most of the memories of her mother and her family when it had been whole. It was contaminated by the scent of death and dust now, and each night it seemed she moved to sleep further and further away, unwilling to chose a den for herself when there was no need. The trees provided her with shelter and the pineboughs with warmth. Lonely, perhaps, but it worked for her. Nighttime had always been lonesome, anyway. She could be herself during the day.

Her ears flicked forward at the unusual sound coming from deeper within the woods. Her steps became lighter, her white eyes more scrutinizing. What sort of creature moved upon three legs? Ceres moved closer towards the source of the noise, nostrils flaring as she caught a flash of white through the trees. Upon further inspection she realized it was not some strange three-legged creature at all, but a crippled wolf. Her head at a tilt, she approached the female, curious as to why she was exclaiming at... plants. Ceres tried to glance around her and see if there was something else on the ground, but no, only plants. Her brow furrowed.

"Uh... hey!" She greeted, her tail waving behind her. "Plants are cool and all but they aren't THAT exciting." The words weren't spoken rudely, more in a teasingly cocky manner reminiscent of the mother that she had lost.
