I didn't know what a "flatter" was, but the stranger seemed happy by my compliment which, in turn, made me even more excited. With a wagging tail, I smiled fondly up at the older wolfess as she spoke. The white eyes of my distant grandfather sparkled with pure innocence as I watched, waiting to see what the other said or did. The piece of smelly wood went completely unnoticed. It wasn't food of any kind and the scent coming off of it was rather awful. No, my full attention was on the new wolf for now. As she lowered her head, the older female spoke of the sea… whatever that was.
Tilting my head to the side, I was about to ask what a "sea" was but didn't have time before my new friend motioned towards it. Oh! The pretty water. So, it's real name was Sea. I barked joyfully at learning something new! I loved to learn things and was always eager to know more. Turning my dark head to the glistening waters, I howled adorably at the waves. "It's nice to meet you, Sea! I hope we can be friends, like I am with Flowers!" Giggling as the ocean danced, I returned my attention back to the pretty lady, hoping to learn more from her.
But it would seem she would be learning more from me. The question made my ears droop momentarily. "No. Daddy told me that it's dangerous and Mommy is always saying to stay away from things that are dangerous. Oh, dangerous means bad, by the way," I added, hoping to help the other wolf learn something new today too. Then a thought came to me and my colorless eyes glanced at the ocean. How could something so pretty be bad? This wolf was pretty and she was really nice! "Can I play with Sea? I play with Flowers all the time. I want to be friends with Sea too!"
Before the older wolfess could stop me, I rushed towards the waters giggling like mad. Hesitating for only a moment, I darted into the shallows of the water and instantly regretted it. The tides played a trick on the me and a small wave splashed over me, sending me reeling back to the sands, drenched to the bone. Yelping loudly, I sought comfort in the wolfess and ran by her side. Sad eyes gazed up. "Why did Sea do that!? It was mean and cold and I only wanted to be its friend!" I growled at the oblivious waters as I sulked on the beach with my new companion.
