Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Dexter
male.11 years old.35in, 145#.born to MothxCoszcotl.sibling to Amoxtli&Zeltzin.unable to bind.mated to none.father to Eztli, Lixue, Petra, Citlalli, & Itzel.Taviora

The wolf from Iromar was certainly mysterious but he didn't find himself suspicious of Jackdaw in the slightest. Sure, he wasn't very forthcoming with all information but he was probably a spy of sorts for the pack so that was to be expected. That's who they would send out to search for children of the late alpha, right? The first moment he found himself distrusting the wolf at his word would be the first moment he would be sending him right back out of Taviora but until then, the wolf deserved to see if the boy was the one he was looking for. He was curious of the new alpha of Iromar and wondered what it was like for them to be ruled by a young wolf just as Taviora was. Were they taking it as well? He wanted to ask but figured that wasn't a subject Jackdaw would want to talk about. He was here on a mission and he was focused if nothing else. When the boy arrived, Dexter turned to see Jackdaw's expression. He seemed shocked if nothing else but there was something like recognition in his eyes. So maybe he already saw Aranck in the boy. Guess that means his mission was a success. He gave the boy a smile and Dexter took heart from this, hoping it was a sign that Jackdaw was a good guy in all respects and really meant the boy no harm.

He listened as Jackdaw spoke to the boy, offering apologies from his alpha. Dexter tilted his head some in curiosity. He wondered what kind of upbringing they must have had with Aranck. He sounds like he was a horrible father. Jackdaw let the boy know that Pine meant no harm toward him or his siblings and asked for his name. Dexter wondered if the boy even knew he had other siblings besides the sister he was so worried about. When Jackdaw glanced at him, Dexter gave him a short nod to let him know everything was fine. He didn't know if Jackdaw was asking if what he'd said was okay or what but he wanted him to know that he was doing just fine. Meanwhile the boy looked overwhelmed and he couldn't seem to stop staring at the skull Dexter had brought. He felt bad for a moment, wondering if it was indeed the sister he had been sent to look for. He would feel horrible knowing this was how he had delivered the news but somehow he had to know either way. The boy finally slumped over where he was, suddenly looking much older and exhausted. Dexter's ears flicked back in sympathy for the boy, wishing he knew how to help him through this. Then the boy said that it was a sister. Dexter tilted his head, somehow understanding that he didn't say "this is MY sister" or "this is THE sister." So perhaps another?

When Jackdaw mentioned Aranck, Dexter saw the boy's facial expression stiffen. There were painful memories there and he scowled thoughtfully, wishing he knew how to help with these situations. Then the boy confirmed that he was Aranck's son. He said his name was Zharko and Dexter felt a little better. At least now he could think of him as someone other than the boy. He was sure somehow that the growl wasn't meant for them but rather Zharko having to admit who his father was. There was almost a hatred in his eyes when he said the wolf's name and Dexter felt sympathy for him once again. When Jackdaw mentioned younger siblings, Zharko's breath seemed to catch and Dexter's ears flicked. So maybe he didn't know about them. Dexter gave Zharko time to process everything, watching him patiently and when the younger wolf stepped forward, he looked more ready to talk. He looked at the skull first and told them that she wasn't the sister Dexter was looking for. She was going to hurt his sister. Dexter scowled. So the plot thickens. Now Dexter wondered what had happened to the dead skull at his paws and somehow he figured Zharko might have something to do with it since he didn't look surprised at all that she was dead.

He thought back to the guilt that seemed to wash over Zharko's features before when they were talking about his missing sister. Could this be another piece in that puzzle? But now was not the time. At least not yet. Zharko was on a mission now, stepping to Jackdaw to tell him he wanted to meet his siblings. And yet Dexter knew his own mission wasn't finished yet. He couldn't leave this unfinished. He had promised Zharko he would help and he would keep his word. He glanced at Jackdaw first, sure that the wolf would be more than happy to take Zharko back to Iromar and introduce him to the other children of Aranck. But first, Dexter needed a little more information. He looked at Zharko.

"I want to continue to look for your sister. I told you I would find her and I intend to do that. Can I have her name so I'll have something to go on? You say she was going to hurt your littermate. Did she say anything else? Did she say a place where she might take her? Anything you have would be helpful."

He didn't want to overwhelm the boy but he wanted to help more than anything. While Zharko was meeting his other siblings and going back home, he could be doing his due diligence and helping to find the lost sister. It would be a reward in itself to reunite her with her worried brother.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
