Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

The beasts naturally caused Dragonfly to avoid nightly travels, and she’d become far more cautious during the day. Usually, without being seen or heard from, she’d snatch a rabbit and carry it to a more secure location to avoid being caught by surprise by the unnatural predators about. She… she really didn’t know if her instincts were correct; she’d simply seen shadows looming outside while she hid inside dens and logs. Tonight, however, she’d been caught in the fields with no shelter that evening. She was hurrying back to the shelter of Encora Woodlands, hopeful she’d avoid trouble on the way. As she was discovering though, she was a terribly unlucky wolf. When she arrived, she’d been assaulted by cannibals. Secondly, she’d had a blind date with a male whom sadly, she didn’t fit well enough with. Then, she’s been a fortuneteller for a gypsy gathering, but the turn out had been poor. Now, she heard a sound that paralyzed her paws.

A ravenous, deadly wolf-snarl punctuated the night. Like the dimming portion of a twinkling star, Dragonfly diminished her presence in the tall grass and stalked cautiously through the stalks, weaving between spaces large enough for her to fit so that the tips of the blades were still. She flinched and froze when she heard a sharp yelp, dread spilled out of her heart and filled her muscles with strength given to a wolf cornered. With fleet paws, she launched herself after the noise, determined to pay forward the kindness Jaeger and Arthfael once showed her when they saved her from the cannibals. Her eyes gleamed in the night as she rocketed forward, observing the mighty cougar.

She’d been in the territory of polar bears while she grew up, so it’s size didn’t register in Dragonfly’s mind as extraordinary, but rather as cautionary. Dragonfly’s natural pack-hunt instincts overcame her fear when she saw the silhouette of a wolf drive after the cougar’s rear legs. Her ears flattened and she planted her rear paws and launched herself toward the cougar’s neck and shoulder. Her teeth were aimed viciously for the feline’s jugular. Dragonfly planned on taking any purchase she could with her fangs and allow her momentum to carry out damage. She was small, but if her 150 pounds collided with the cougar at 30 miles an hour, it would be no small hinderance, especially if her teeth got hold of skin.
