I don't want to be a monster

It had been a nice feeling to get his feet wet (literally and figuratively) on the crossing island. The neutral meeting place had proven a good choice for starting Angeline’s introduction to his homeland. He’d promised her that they’d tour every island. Although nowhere near a forest, she’d reminded him. He’d reassured her that they would stay well away from Luthien, at least until they were both ready.

So he’d dove into the nearest channel, deciding to let chance decide which island they’d check out first. One thing he hadn’t told Angeline is that during his previous time here – another lifetime, really – he’d never left Tinuvel, more specifically the Cove, his ancestral home. Emmett had once promised his father’s memory that he would make sure their bloodline always continued there and he had been enormously ashamed of himself when he’d decided to leave. That had all been forgotten when he’d first laid eyes on his beloved’s mahogany’s figure.

Now that he has returned with her at his side, he has hope that Array’s legacy will live on, even if he’s the only one who remembers it.

The beach he washes up on is immediately recognizable even though he’s never set foot on it. Atlantis is the island with the tropical climate, and the humidity hits him with a ton of bricks. He’s glad that he hadn’t found Tinuvel first; he isn’t sure he’s ready to face his old home right off the bat.

”Which direction, my love?” he asks. She brushes his scarred right side as she heads off and he follows obligingly. ”Left it is,” he chuckles.

The sky is overcast and Emmett can hear thunder in the distance. It seems like we picked a bad time to drop in. The amusement in her voice is clear and he scowls over at her. She has always enjoyed watching him squirm and being caught in a storm definitely qualifies.

”Well, we’ll just have to find some shelter then, won’t we?” he questions rhetorically. He hears the echo of her laughter as he sets off, determined to make her get her amusement somewhere else today. Not very far into the chosen territory, he climbs a grassy knoll, using it to get a good look at the rest of the land. He has no idea which place they’re in and he has no idea who lives here, but he’ll definitely need to find some cover before it gets too dangerous to be out in the open.
