Today had been a lazy day, spent lounging on a rock and basking in the canopy’s sun-speckled shadow. Mother told him that they were here to stay, a thought inconceivable to one whose whole life knew naught but the way of a pilgrim. What did it mean to have a home anyway? Would there be enough food to engorge oneself into a coma? Would there be others to play with and to admire him as he shows off his hard-won skills of being awesome? Would he finally be taught to hunt, only bring down the biggest prey ever and instantly become the best, most youngest leader to ever exist? The possibilities excited him enough that he couldn't contain it entirely, his tail pat, pat, patting against his cool stone bed.

Of course, none of this could be accomplished if he simply stayed on his rock all day.

He shifted his weight up and back onto his haunches to let out a leisurely yawn, licking his lips as he padded over to the edge of his pedestal before he leapt from out-crop to out-crop all the way to the ground a few feet below. It was time he put himself out there and made a name for himself, he won’t be almost one forever! He strolled forth, wiggling his way through a wall of bushes to reach the small lake on the other side. If he was to become great, he needed minions, and one couldn’t get minions if their tongue were too dry to talk, after all.
