I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
For the first time since her freedom from the Lagoon, Evaline felt like herself again. She no longer worried about the stares that came when strangers looked upon her mangled ear and the pink scars that marred her flesh. She felt stronger than she had in a year, capable enough to make the trek from Salem to Luthien to see her children. And Evaline was very much in love, a sensation she hadn't felt quite in this way before. While Valentine offered her security and respect -- attractive qualities that made for a comfortable life -- Valve offered passion and adventure. It was an entirely new territory for Evaline, which made the experience all the more invigorating. The mare wouldn't go as far as being thankful for what had happened to her in the Lagoon with Kasabian and Psychedelic -- it had been a terrible ordeal in which she almost lost her life -- but she was emerging from the ashes of her torment a stronger mare, something that the palomino never thought possible.
After several months of recovery, both mental and physical, she found a renewed sense of purpose and caring for her now adult children. Reuniting with her daughter, Vita Nova on Salem, sparked this new chapter. And she set to work on helping Nova escape from the clutches of what Evaline perceived to be an abusive situation. Shamwari played an important role of course, he was the muscle she lacked. And it was he, after all, who successfully fought for his sister's freedom. Evaline was beaming ear-to-ear when she left the Dunes to retrieve her daughter from the Desert and to escort her back to the Prairie. She felt like all was right in the world in that moment. The unfortunate series of events that plagued her family were perhaps finally behind them and she hoped a new day was dawning for them all.
Evaline had not left Salem since her ordeal. And perhaps she was just blissfully ignorant to think she could make the difficult swim from one island to another. The golden mare followed her daughter into the waves at the shoreline of the Desert, and swam confidently behind her toward the looming shore of the Prairie. But after some time, the petite mare began to feel weary, her slender legs tiring to the point that she could not keep the trajectory required against the ocean's current to reach the Prairie. Her body began to drift, and the distance between she and Nova grew farther. "Keep going." She shouted out across the waves to her pregnant daughter. "I'll make it, but I'll land down shore from you."
As the hazy mass of Luthien loomed in the distance, Evaline beat against the waters with whatever remaining energy she had. The small mare eventually washed up along the shores on the other end of the island. Exhausted from her swim, the palomino rose on shaky limbs onto the sand and crumbled back onto the earth amongst the trees, immediately identifying the terrain as the neighboring Forest.
