Adonai studied the woman before her carefully- she looked menacing, with the same piercing gaze that seemed to befit all of their family. She was sure of their relation when the woman of white replied in Latin, and her shoulders relaxed, though she did sit or move in any way to make it seem that she was growing more comfortable. Despite their apparent familial ties, Adonai knew better than to let her guard down.
Her next words assigned a name to the face, Aunt she called herself, and Adonai only knew of one.
Eyes of blue and violet move from Eve to the clams nestled in the sand. Adonai could not help but scrunch up her nose in the face of them, spoiled as she was with the hunting prowess of her mother. But the woman had not been back for days and her stomach tightened at the thought of food. She stuck out a paw into the sand and managed to dig out a few from their hiding places. The girl bent, sniffing the small clam with uncertainty, before gingerly picking it up with her teeth and crunching past the shell.
It was full of salt, and sand, that became stuck within her teeth and in the back of her throat. She managed to get to the pitiful amount of meat in the middle of the clam, but it was chewy and salty and generally unsatisfying. Adonai spat out the pieces of shell and sand, her stomach grumbling even louder than it had before. Her lips curled above her teeth in a mixture of disgust and defeat.
