He does not, for a moment, think that Echidna is the only one to blame. She's not. He holds enough of that blame as well, and he doesn't forget it. He is soothed by the mere fact that he has always done his best to push himself to honesty when he's made mistakes. It doesn't always help, but it's not about fixing things at that point. Sure he'd wanted to, but in the end it was all about the truth, because if they did not have that between them, then what else was there? She knew how he felt about honesty, and how he's loathe to have secrets between them during their relationships. It meant that he had been pushy on knowing what she'd been up to when she ran off, but he couldn't help but want to know what was so important that she would just go out of the blue on him.

Maybe there had been a buildup of things left unsaid between them, and maybe they hadn't been able to hold onto each other like they once had. Enough that it led to them drifting too far apart and becoming people they no longer knew the way they had believed they had. At least this was how Quinn saw it. The changes in Echidna from Knell was still a blaring warning to him that he didn't know half as much as maybe he should have. He can harbor some of the blame for that; for jumping so quickly into things when he knew that they had changed from one point to another. There was no use in denying this, and even though he had tried to get back to how he once had been, the changes had been too extreme to fit in the same way they had back then.

For both of them. It wasn't just him that had changed enough that going back wouldn't work anymore. He had seen that last time. There was only forward to go, and Quinn doesn't now where that leads. Echidna was saying that she'd like that; getting to know each other again. As friends they could do that without all the same complications, right? Like it had been in the beginning, though there was no way to be those people again. Not this far out, with this much history behind them. It was way too late for that. Moving forward was all that they had. Quinn was startled when Echidna's hair went pale blue, but he swallowed down that surprise and wondered at it. It was pretty. He returns her smile, because it seems right, a step in the right direction.

When she shifted to jaguar form, Quinn admires the feline lines of her, but he's always liked the form, had a soft spot for jaguars as a whole because of her. He snapped teeth at her tail after it had slid from under his chin; instinctive, though the gesture was not done to be mean at all. Just the way he was. And he does remember the good times, and that was what stung at him the most in times like these. At times when all he has are memories to wrap himself up in. Her words elicit a snicker from his lips. "You know I'm faster than you are." He replied, shifting into cheetah form and yawning, shaking his fur out and flexing his claws toes before giving her a challenging look. "After you." He rumbled, smirking in the way only a feline could.
