It was horrible-the takeover had been so swift, so efficient, so complete. And it was all her fault. She had thought of duma as her friend, as her guard and her companion. He had been bonded to her older sister, and so he had always been around. She was innocent and naïve, seeing as she was a puppy that had been protected all of her life. And so she had stupidly put her trust in a guard who is supposed to protect her, who is supposed to protect all of them. How could she know that he had forged a bond with Losa that was forsaken-that Losa would be Duma's soulmate. She could not have known, yet because she had not been quiet and her thoughts and statements and had instead trusted in him, and spoken her thoughts to him, he had done it all. She never wanted to be a princess, she had wanted to be a normal wolf. She want to be able to run and hunt and play like other pups did. She did not want to be fragile, she did not want to be revered. And because she did all she could for her people, they loved her and praised her as kind and caring. But that of course had led to her telling duma that she wished there were no guards. She wished that there was no one forcing her to be who she was. And the next day? He had slaying them all. She could not understand at that age how the two are not connected, and so in her mind, her personal beliefs had led to the downfall of her kingdom, and the murder of her parents.

This was the circle, the train of thought that continued to run on crooked unstable rails through her mind. It made her sad, and it upset her. She wished she could take it all back, but dreams were fantasies never to be realized. Perhaps somewhere over the rainbow, and an alternate universe, things would've happened differently. Perhaps they are, she would have been able to manipulate time and turn back the clock to prevent genocide. But that was not here. And perhaps after all, and a warped and twisted cruel joke a feat, she had gotten her wish. After all, in this land she was not a princess. This was not her kingdom, and that she meant nothing. It was all she had ever wanted, to be able to be her own person. But she realized that she did not know who she was with out her family. At least she still had her sister, her best friend. But how would they survive in a world so dangerous without guards to protect them? How would she be kept safe from those seeking to use her as a totem for magic? Was there even magic here? And how would they are people survive, without the spiritual advisers to guide them on the moral path that constantly wavered. How would she ever fully accomplish her purpose in life-to be the next storyteller, to be the next Lorer? Ever since they had left, she had gone over all of the stories she had ever been told in her mind time and time again so that they would be perfectly and granted her memory for all time. But that could never account for all of the stories she had yet to be told. So much of their history was lost, and the only way to ever regain it would be to return to the kingdom. But that simply was not an option.

Together, her and her sister and the pups she had managed to see from the nursery had all escaped from the kingdom. Zawyne have been the one she find her parents, destroyed by duma. She has seen the odd swirling glint in his eyes, gone was the pure blue pools and in their place was something darker. She of course knew all of the tales about Fehrward turning into vampires… But he had not turned. He was something that they had never known. He was something new, something dangerous, something dark. He would be always searching for her sister, and she could not stop him. She was beautiful, week, petite, even for a pup. She was a delicate flower meant to be admired, put up on a pedestal to give the world hope, to make them believe in beauty and love again. But Zawyne would give up anything to be strong and fierce, to be a warrior herself. She had run and found her sister, covered and her parents blood the young princess had looked for Llosa to tell her what had happened. She had cried and wept, but had pulled herself together and together sisters had escaped. They had traveled many hours throughout the night, the day, the next night. It was all she could do to keep going forward… But now as she raised her eyes and looked about, she saw that her sister was nowhere in sight. She was alone, without even the other pups next to her. Instead, she stood on the shore of a great river that was sweeping through a canyon, the water rushing over the rocks and making a beautiful lullaby. Even though she was afraid to be alone, it lulled her into a sense of security. The young princess looked about and found a jetted over boulder that would allow her to hide beneath it. It would shield her from eyes, but she did not think about her scent, the trail of her perfume l. And so the princess curled up beneath it, too tired to go on, too tired to worry. All she could think of was rest, was sleep. Perhaps somewhere, her dreams really would come true...
