"Sounds like you've been busy," Flynn said, dusting himself off. The key now lay in trying not to smile. Despite his best efforts the corner of his mouth twitched. "When I got Omni-ed I ended up an outlaw in the Wild West..." Breaking off and shaking his head, Flynn realised that Cal probably had no idea what the 'wild west' was. She'd done a pretty good job of 'going native' on Shaman, but he wasn't convinced she'd read an awful lot of earth history in her down time. "Nevermind," he said, rubbing awkwardly at the back of his neck, "but after that I ended up trapped in Gwythr. Disconcerting doesn't entirely cover it."
He remembered Dylan a little too late. His brother hadn't moved but was staring at Flynn with a mixture of astonishment and something else he couldn't quite identify. It unsettled him. Flynn very rarely shared any information with his family about his encounters with deities, and his little brothers had heard even less about the time of the two empires. He was sure he'd hear Dylan and Danny whispering about it in a corner in the near future.
"What's a thigh gap?" Dylan asked, quirking a single eyebrow.
"Never you mind," Flynn shot back, "you run back to the King and tell him Lorraine decided to leave without seeing him. That doesn't sound totally out of character, I doubt he'll be overly upset."
"Now Dylan." His brother rolled his eyes but reluctantly obeyed.
Flynn turned back to Cal.
"Nothing to do but wait it out, I'm afraid," he told her sympathetically, "come on, we'll head back to the apartments." He paused, hesitating, "unless there's anything...magical you've always wanted to try?"
