Persephone tilted her interest at the mention of a queen. So this woman was not new to the islands – not completely, anyway – and had at one time ruled the Inlet. The place had been home to Persephone’s ally, Orkaan, until recently, and she planned to visit it again soon to meet with the new leader. “Oh, the Inlet? I know the place – I was allied with the current leader until he left recently,” she replied. “How long ago was that?” At Freya’s reply Persephone nodded. The feeling was familiar to her – it was not all that long ago since she had washed up here a stranger. Even now, she would often come to the common grounds and not see a single face she knew. She was trying to make connections across the islands, but there always seemed so many horses here it was impossible to know them all. Freya’s question made her realise just how long she had been here, and yet she still felt like a stranger at times. “About a year now,” she replied, surprised even herself. “I came to these islands not long before that, though it still feels like yesterday. Not so many familiar faces for myself either even now.” She offered a smile. |
