She didn't know what she expected to come of her love life. When she first returned to Moladian, she told herself she didn't need anyone. She was strong and independent. She knew how to kill someone in seconds. She was an assassin and she didn't need anyone. But then she came across Navarre and he was a charmer and a roamer. He wasn't a pack wolf but he was looking for company and he decided she wouldn't be so bad to travel with. She loved the easy way they could banter back and forth. Word games were fun. They checked out the packs together and grew more protective over each other as they went along. By the end of it, he decided he liked Diveen, though she had to wonder if it was because he found out it used to be her home. It only made her like him more. The first red flag was when he went out to bring recruits back to Diveen in order to secure a rank and instead came back acting differently and smelling like something different, his imprint. He'd found her and Zarah could tell by more than just his smell. Just the whole way he held himself was different. Like he was finally whole. She envied him automatically because she would never get to feel that feeling. She was cursed as a child. Maybe it was because she was the last of parents' children and an only child in her litter. Maybe she was just defective by fate. She couldn't feel that tug of an imprint even if she wanted to. And she'd never wanted to until that day she saw Navarre come back a different wolf than when he'd left. Not long after that, he left Diveen and didn't come back. He still hadn't returned. At first she looked for him and grieved a little silently when others weren't around. She'd grown to care for him and then she started to hate herself for it. She was strong. She didn't need him and she would keep telling herself that until it came true. She was starting to move on now but Navarre had opened something up in her. She was lonely now. She wanted companionship. She wanted a mate. When she saw puppies in Diveen, she thought of what her own would look like. Would they resemble her father Achilles or her mother Vega? Would they look anything like her grandparents Yojimbo or Pompeii? Or even Kane and Isola? There was so much royalty in her bloodlines, so much magic. She wanted to share it with the world. But she wouldn't do anything without another half. She couldn't imprint but there would always be the doubt in her mind. What male would choose her over the magic of his imprint? She tried to let it all go as she rolled in the dirt and grass at the foot of the trunk. It felt good on her back. But then she heard someone rummaging around close by and she hurriedly rolled to her stomach, ears swiveling until she set her gaze on the male just on the other side of the tree. He stepped out as she looked at him, every move looking deliberate as if he was posing just for her. The idea made her snicker as she tilted her head, eying him up and down, her eyes twinkling with confidence. She was sure she looked a sight with grass and dirt and twigs sticking out of her fur but for now she didn't care. She would spend the time grooming herself later.
