Unknown to most fans is an unpublished manuscript entitled "Libre de Elu Sobre la Pelota" written by Luis Elu, who was a player (and a good one) at Miami, Bridgeport and Milford. It was submitted to at least one publisher in 1979, and to Carlton Press in 1984 for possible publication. It was submitted on his behalf by Bob Heussler, then the director of public relations at Milford Jimi Alai. The book was passed on.
Some of the publisher's comments: "...interesting and for the most part, easy enough for the layman to understand...While I liked it I am reluctant to recommend it for our line at this time. The legalized gambling business(in New England) is indeed taking hold, but...we cannot take a chance on anything that is not extremely obvious. Unfortunately, let's pass.
I got my hands on a copy of this manuscript some time ago. It includes proofreading corrections and obviously a rejection letter. Fascinating. It is less than 100 pages in length, with diagrams and appendix and I thought it was a good read, though Mr. Goitia's book was a bit more polished.
