Life within Blossom for the kalak had been boring and quiet lately. The teen had not done much to do anything or meet others, so really it was her own fault. She had been keeping to herself, not going out into the pack and trying to meet her new pack members or interact with them. And she rarely left the pack, staying within her den most of the time. A part of her continuously blamed this on her disease. It was exhausting for her to go out for very long and she always needed to stop and rest, more so than any other varg would. What was the point of wandering about if she was just going to get tired and sometimes even sicker? Sometimes when she went out it would make her worse. Her cough would come back and it would become hard to breathe. Her muscles and joints would ache, her entire body lacking oxygen and feeling starved. The winter had made things even worse. It made her joints ache worse than ever, her body telling her to stay inside her den as much as possible where it was warm. And that was exactly what Shilo had done. She had kept to herself, sleeping and trying to not to think about how often her stomach rumbled in hunger from her lack of meals.

But sometimes the hunger grew to be too much and she needed to hunt. Even though it was an exhausting task for the sickly femme, she had to do it if she was to survive. When the teen woke within her den, she knew that today was one of those days that the hunger would win over the sickness. With a groan, Shilo forced her body to get up, her long stilts protesting even the smallest of actions. She knew once she got up and moving that her muscles would ease up a bit, but it was always getting there that was the hardest part. The kalak pushed through her den, going slow at first until all of her muscles had fully woken up. Now she was able to move more easily, at least until her muscles grew tired. But for the moment she enjoyed the freedom. A rare smile appeared on her kissers as she walked through the trees, leaving the territory for once. She was feeling better than she had expected to, and she wanted to take advantage of this bit of energy. But she didn’t want to push herself too hard, so she kept her pace easy and relaxed, not pushing her limbs too quickly.

As the femme wandered she noticed that the trees and brush grew thicker in this part of the forest, the perfect place to look for smaller game that she could handle on her own. Her large audettes perked up at every sound, alert to any small creatures that may come across her way. Her nares caught the scent of a rabbit before any of her other senses did, and she dropped into a crouch, her joints protesting in the change in position for only a moment. She knew that her russet color would not blend in well here, so she made sure to stay well hidden with the brush. Shilo’s mint green orbs finally spotted the rabbit that she had scented, and she began salivating at the thought of a meal finally. Being careful not make any noise, she crept forward. Finally, when she felt she was within a close enough distance, her back limbs propelled her forward as she attempted to pounce on her prey. But she had misjudged how weak she had become, and she fell short, the rabbit quickly running away into the forest. Shilo let a snarl of frustration, her stomach protesting in hunger with the lack of food, unsure of when she would actually be able to catch a meal.
