Shortly after Psychedelic left, another intruding stallion showed up at Persephone's doorstep. This one wasn't as much of a coward as Psychedelic had been, however. And thus, Persephone was now gone, captive of this stallion on another island. The drama, it seemed, was endless. Which Evaline wasn't complaining about. It kept Valve away from the forefront of her thoughts. But with the roan queen away, Evaline was able to make in-roads with the rest of herd in ways she worried that Persephone would find deceiving and self-serving. After all, Evaline had no real interest in being a contributing member of the Forest herd... She chose to stay because it beat being all alone and pining away for someone on Salem. Plus, the golden mare was intrigued by Persephone's overall "goodness." She was too kind and caring and responsible. There had to be just something about her that made her interesting. And with Evaline having nothing better to do, she was set on making this her own personal quest. There had to be more to the mare than just her striking good looks, Evaline mused. There were other motivating factors that kept the mare in the Forest too, even if they were more complicated and less fun. Talya seemed to be recovering just fine from her dramatic, but clearly not fatal, display of emotion for her father. It had nearly given Evaline a heart attack, and in the wake of it all, Evaline was being forced to deal with the consequences of the emotional trigger of all that. Despite keeping the strange girl at an arm's distance, she clearly cared for her. Evaline didn't know how to care for her like she would have for Paradiso and Vita Nova or even Shamwari. Her other children came from consensual starts. Paradiso and Vita Nova were strategic ones, pairing herself forever with Valentine and solidifying her place in her herd. Talya had not been wanted. Her existence came from torture and hardship, and it was hard to look in her face and not be reminded of that, and of the stallion that forced all of that on her. But Achoo was different. The sickly, spindly little filly was her way in. If Evaline couldn't love Talya fully, she could latch herself onto her grandchild, one who may or may not make it more than a couple of seasons any way. Evaline could coach Talya through Achoo how to be a mother, even if Talya was much too young and not mentally fit to be one right now. That, however, was a story and an issue for another day. So when Achoo and Talya appeared in the small void of the Forest, Evaline lifted her head with interest and nickered sweetly to the frail filly. Talya's feigned and cautious interest in Evaline did not go unnoticed, and the golden mare made sure to skirt around it carefully. "Oh Achoo, stay there. I'll come to you, sweet one." Evaline said aloud with all the sweetness of a traditional overbearing grandmother. She swayed gently in her slow stride to greet them, lowering her head to drape her muzzle across the small filly before eyeing Talya. "Talya, come stand still. Achoo needs to nurse. She'll never get stronger without her mothers milk." The palomino mare directed, eyeing Talya sternly. "Have you given any more thought to a proper name for your daughter, by the way? I'm sure you can come with something more clever than... Achoo." Evaline added with the roll of her eyes. Evaline was genuinely concerned about the filly's chance at living past her adolescent years, given how sickly she was. Perhaps a change in scenery was necessary, but there was no way the filly was old enough or strong enough to swim to another island. As such, only time would tell if she'd outgrow these allergies. 17 | Arabian cross |14.2 | Palomino | Mother of Kasabian, Shamwari, Vita Nova, Paradiso, Ruxin & Talya | Vinyl |
