Asp had returned to the Islands for what seemed like the hundredth time in his six years of life. If his life could be measured by adventure, Asp could swear he had lived a millennia, the actual amount of time long forgotten and, after a while, ignored. Still, he was in his prime--capable and confident, but then again, he’d always been capable and confident. But this time he wanted something different.

Having lost Dragonmaw to the man in black, Asp had left the mountainside and crossed the ocean, dragging along the remnant of the mare who’d started all the trouble. Though it didn’t take much dragging, if the truth were told; Asp was the only thing the colt had really ever known, besides his mother and a few other herdmates, but that was that. Asp took care of him, even if it was begrudgingly.

But he’d left him near the Lagoon, intending to come back for him after he’d explored the rest of the Crossing. The main island was always a hustle and bustle of a place, and Asp was curious to see if he could find anyone he recognized. He didn’t.

So, content for now but slightly disappointed, Asp was walking through the snow (more like wading, if we’re being honest) when he caught sight of the palomino mare. He thought about ignoring it; turning up to the Lagoon empty-handed would certainly be easier, but Asp was all about making a name for himself. And so, without much of a flick of one of his fuzzy ears, the stallion turned on his haunches and rocketed off (as much as a snow-laden beast could rocket, anyway) toward her.

When he was nearly upon her, he slid to an easy halt and lowered his head, his ears back. He circled her once, and then, after a moment of silence and stillness (while he glanced into her blue eyes, so pretty and unique,) lunged at her, driving her in the direction of the frozen swamp and his soon-to-be-home.
