Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

When the fawn’s struggles finally ceased, Dash eased his mouth open and lifted his head, tongue darting out to brush away blood and fur though his lips remained stained. Through this strange connection that bound him to Citlalli he felt her joy and something else that he couldn’t quite name. It was a feeling that was foreign to him but even as he tried to figure it out, his imprint lifted her head, her expression reflecting the emotions that bombarded him. Unbidden, the right corner of his mouth started to pull back in a crooked smile. When her actions matched her emotions it was almost as if the girl was transformed into some strange and magical creature of the forest. Her eyes were bright and reminded him of the sun shining through an emerald leaf in the summertime. Of course, for some reason Lalli’s excitement always seemed to turn physical.

When she pounced on him, tackling him, Dash stumbled, his paws tangling with the fawn’s still legs. Toppling backward, his ears flicked back, plastered to his skull and he was unable to keep from growling instinctively at the vulnerable position he found himself in. But when her tongue dragged across his cheek, he froze and the rumbling growl died abruptly in his throat. Even when she pulled herself off of him, Dash didn’t dare move. When was the last time anyone had showed him even a modicum of affection? He hardly dared to breathe as he watched Lalli prance and gloat as she had every right to do. Slowly his ears unfurled and he pushed himself into a seated position though his gaze never left his imprint.

Molten gold eyes followed the path of her tongue as it slid across her blood-stained golden lips. A sudden and rather profound thought popped into his head. He wasn’t sure he would ever fully understand Lalli and her unrestrained emotions for as long as he lived. But that then led to the thought of how long he might have to try. In his life, nothing was permanent except for the hunger. Hunger he could count on, others he could not. The thought that she would disappear, probably sooner than later, troubled him more than it should. Probably because of the bond they shared.

Would that make her inevitable abandonment worse than those he’d previously endured?

He tried to pay attention amidst his heavy thoughts. Tried to latch onto her excitement and zest for life. The most he could manage was a wavering lopsided smile and a grumbling stomach. Once more he grew irritated with himself. For the first time in his short life he actually cared, even a little bit, what another wolf thought or felt and he didn’t want to dim the brightness in Lalli’s eyes. But how was he supposed to pretend? Maybe he’d just say nice things and try to smile. Maybe she’d be too excited to notice that he genuinely had no idea how to join her. Sure, he was excited for a decent meal, but he’d never been that animated. “Eh, you did most of it.”
