Cypress

tomorrow i will come back, leader of the whole pack

Cypress cocked her head, peering down at the papers with interest. She recognized only that it was the ancient language but she only knew that much because Olive could read it; she could be looking at the answers to all of life's mysteries or a mundane shopping list and it would all look the same to her. At least Thoth knew what he was looking at. She couldn't understand putting so much stock in mundane letters, but collectors were a weird bunch. They knew plenty of people who would gladly kill for something as small as a button or lapel pin if it came with enough "history". Cypress' eyes widened slightly as Thoth spoke again - his mother's journal? She studied his face, wondering what he was feeling. From all she'd heard - mostly from Poppy - the two weren't on remotely good terms, but surely something like this... No, she'd never let him sell it. Not that he seemed inclined to, the way he froze when he realized what it was was enough to tell her that, but still. It was bad enough he'd decided to sell anything for her at all, she couldn't be any more of a burden.

Danny's comment interrupted both Thoth and Cypress' trains of thought, both looking towards the other boy where he stood at the doorway. Danny's expression, mouth slightly open as if he were ready to argue even though the rest of his expression was the equivalent of a sigh and a shrug. There was just no arguing with Thoth when he was in his current state, even though Danny really wanted to.

"If you're sure...” he said, mouth and chin firming stubbornly. He definitely wouldn't let Thoth go see that Murray alone. He looked towards Cypress, who was no doubt having the same thoughts but probably for another reason.

There was no time left for discussion - suddenly they were rooted, solidified in crystal. Cypress shot a fearful look at Thoth, relieved he was still close, but Danny was further back. She licked her lips uncomfortably. If she could just figure out which one had the crystal magic, maybe she could do that thing that happened when she was stressed or angry - that thing that had turned both Torram and Alder into fluffy small dogs on at least two occasions each. She didn't have good control over it - she couldn't even pinpoint exactly when it happened, but...

“M-my name is Jessie, and this is Thor and... Greg,” Cypress said shakily. She hoped she sounded guilty in the right way. “I-I'm so sorry we trespassed! We were just on a d-date and our friend came and we t-thought it would be fun... W-we'll never do it again, honest”

Thoth had started to speak at the same time, making Danny wish he could elbow him from afar. Elbow him... from afar? The idea made Danny focus his magic, knocking something over below with his telekinesis. A loud crash followed, making him wince internally. The hat rack really hadn't been meant to go through the window...

“S-see!” Cypress said anxiously to Thoth, praying he was going to play along. “I told you this place was haunted!! P-Please can we just go home?”
