At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

It was her. Even through the agony and the pain and the red he saw, he could also see her - Sebring, his mate, the love of his life. Even though he himself was not a Tempest, he could still confidently say that she was his soulmate, the one female in the world built to match him, to complete his soul. He had spent all of this time searching for her… And yet here she was, right in front of him among his enemies, yes, but not those that he had expected. Kalgalath had thought she would be beaten and bloodied and in the paws and claws of the kalaks. Instead, she was numbered among the vampires. Had he been wrong all along? Instead of being kidnapped by the maned wolves, had she kidnapped by the vampires, by these dark, bloodthirsty creatures all along? Would freeing her and bringing her home safe and sound really be as easy as killing her master?… Not that that sounded easy, especially in his current state. His mouth opened again and another scream ripped from it - he had been through many battles, many wars, and had all sorts of injuries across his many years. But this one was worse than all the others combined. Wildfire set swiftly across his skin and penetrated deeper, through his nerves, his muscles, through everything until his very heart was lit and burning. He thought that surely this would be the end, and perhaps it would have been if not for his deepest need to save the love of his life, to make sure that she was all right. Somehow, his body managed to metabolize the venom, and excreted it through some manner, be it the wound from the bite, be it from his exhaled breath, or be it from the piss and shit that was exiting him as he convulsed and seized. And as soon as he was able, he rose to his paws.

He was shaky, his legs wobbling beneath him, but he grunted and strained and pushed with every last fiber of his being to muster his strength. But once he did, he realized that there was more pain - Kal did not remember how it had happened or when it happened but he assumed it was while he was injured from the Vampire bite. The blood was pouring down over his face, and his left ear was torn completely off. He tried to flicker the muscles in his pinnae, but only the right would move. Hesitantly, he wiped a paw over it, and found nothing, but gushing blood, and painful. But given what he had just gone through, this was nothing in comparison - a dull ache… Though he was sure that it would come to bother him later.

As he came to gather his thoughts, gather himself, he remembered what he had noticed when the poison had wrecked havoc on his body - Sebring! His arctic blue eyes, which marked his genetic line, shifted about, searching for her. And finally, he found her - attacking wolves she might once have called friends. Kalgalath yelled her name, hoping it would stop her, but knowing that it wouldn’t. “Sebring!” And even as his voice was fading, his shaking legs were running toward Diosa, his lips raised in a snarl. She was much smaller than he was, and with his first attack, he aimed to knock harshly into her and knock her over, hoping for her head to hit the hard ground floor and perhaps knock her unconscious. If he managed to hit her, and even if he didn’t, he would then reached down to wrap his jaws around her throat, hoping to kill her in order to set Sebring free.
