Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Another growl rumbled from the bit of her empty stomach. Idrisa whimpered quietly and gave her belly a gentle lick, as if that would somehow ease her hunger pangs. With a sigh, she gazed out of her makeshift den at the pre-dawn light only just starting to brighten the sky. The chill in the air made her shiver violently which, in turn, made her tummy roar even louder. Winter was fast approaching, and the young, russet colored wolf was not prepared in the slightest for the harsher months. Leaving her parents before they could teach her how to properly hunt for herself had been one of the dumbest things she could have done, but the impatience of youth had never been intelligent.

Pulling herself free of the thick brambles she had been sleeping under, the girl stretched her frozen muscles to warm them up. The girl was skinny, far too skinny then any wolf had a right to be. The last few weeks had seen her eating what she could of long dead corpses as she tried in vain to find her missing brother. Aspis was supposed to be here. He was supposed to help her, teach her how to hunt and how to fight. They were to face the world together. And yet, she was alone. At some point during their travels, they had been separated and now the young girl was well and truly lost. With a shake of her fur, she rid herself of the cold and the bad thoughts. Today was a new day and it was time to hunt.

The sun was fully in the sky when Idrisa found the rabbit. The wind carried its scent towards her and she quickly crouched down and began to stalk the plump little thing. Carefully, she crept closer. Her full attention was the target. The stick under her paw went unnoticed until he cracked loudly under her weight. The sound was like a bomb and it sent the little thing running away faster than a bullet. The wolf didn't even bother giving chase. Groaning, she collapsed in a heap and covered her muzzle with her paws. All the while, her stomach growled impatiently as it wait for the food that would never come.
