The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

She was a whole new kind of creature and he couldn't be comfortable while she was around Xerxes and the cavern. Why did she come here? Not even like she would answer if he were to ask. No, she seemed the kind who loved to taunt and torture, to push you to your limits before she threw you right over the edge. His mind was already so close to snapping. What did he do to deserve this? His parents gone, his brother gone, even his sister was mostly in hiding from him. Maybe he was unworthy all this time. At her sudden questions, he growled, a deep rumbling in his throat as he eyed her warily. "You are not welcome here." He repeated. Then she seemed to notice something cause she asked what was under his tail and he moved dramatically, curling his body around the front of the skull as a snake would around its prey as it choked the life from it. His eyes bore into hers in challenge. "Nothing of your concern."

When he snapped his jaws at her, he could see a change in her demeanor, almost as if he had awakened something and he knew now that she wasn't going to just leave. He'd made this into the ultimate game for her. Leave it to him to make all the wrong moves. Then she said it was impolite to keep a lady waiting and he couldn't help the hoarse chuckle that fell from his lips. "I see no lady here." He hissed back to her. She continued to move closer and he snarled in warning, ears pinned to his skull as he bared his full set of teeth at her. His tail flicked over his back in growing irritation. Couldn't she just take a hint? She growled back and he could hear the authority in it, the demand to submit. Normally he would find a good logical reason to do or question her on it but he was in no mood for such folly.

The skull was his. The cavern was his. She was the stranger and she was a threat. When he braced himself, he saw her pause, as if surprised. But she didn't look happy about it, no, rather the opposite. She grew quiet, almost thoughtful and his eyes narrowed in anger. It couldn't be good, her thinking so long. It couldn't mean anything good. He wondered to himself briefly if his mother had seen this same look before going after whoever it was she would hunt down. He didn't know her fate but he knew she was no longer of this world. He felt it like a sore in his side. His mother couldn't rest after Xerxes' death. She craved vengeance. He had a feeling she wouldn't stop until she had it or it took her. It seemed the latter was her fate, after all.

His next words seemed to throw her off, but only for a moment. Then she said that she would ease his suffering and he growled again. "You're right, I am suffering your presence. You should leave." And yet the moment she lowered her body, he knew she was about to act. He struggled to remember what little training he'd had before everything blew up in Asteraia. He'd gone to Diveen to learn how to spy but had also been invited in Asteraia to learn to fight and yet he couldn't recall a single lesson. Maybe they never happened. Even so, as she darted for his leg, he froze and it was a second too long. Her mouth closed around his leg and he screamed in frustration and pain, instinctively darting his mouth down toward the scruff of her neck in retaliation. In his struggle, his back foot kicked the skull toward the side of the cave.

The moment she released his leg, he tried to put weight on it and whimpered at his own weakness. He knew it wasn't broke but it hurt like hell and would definitely bruise and swell later. Meanwhile, warm blood trickled down his leg from her puncture marks and he breathed in the smell with irritation. But his gaze became pure murder when he saw the skull within her mouth and that mocking look in her eyes. He gathered up all his courage and launched himself at her chest, aiming to throw his full body against her and make her stumble or fall, anything to maybe loosen her hold on the skull. It was his!
