PERSEPHONE

Relief washed over Persephone as a smile cracked Evren’s lips. Surely nothing could be too bad with that smile on her face and the kindness in her words. She still had some kind of story to tell, that much was for sure, but for this moment at least, Persephone hoped that she did not have an immediate crisis to deal with right now.

The nickname caught her ear by surprise at first. She had almost forgotten that she had mentioned it to her, all that time ago. To her surprise, however, she did not mind hearing it. She returned the smile and nodded her head.

“Sephy will do,” she replied. “And I’m glad to hear it.”

Persephone paused for a moment, her dark eyes scanning her companion with curiosity. She was still wet from her swim, and shuddered as she spoke.

“It has been too long,”, she corrected. “Why don’t you come a little further in, take some shelter from the wind?

Persephone turned a little, prepared to lead Evren to better shelter if she accepted – deeper in the Forest, where the trees were denser, a breeze barely bothered the herd. It was her favourite place to shelter when the winter really came down hard on them.

“I have been well, aside from a few run-ins with some troublesome stallions, but that is behind me for now. The herd has dwindled unfortunately, but I’m still here – as you say, the devil himself couldn’t move me.” she replied with a playful smile.

She tilted her head, looking at her companion curiously.

“So what brings you here, Evren? I was sad to see you go from the Desert, would you mind if I asked you what happened there? I hope it was nothing too unpleasant that made you leave… or return for that matter.”
