Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The moonscorned feels the salt water in her eyes, feels the grit and how it rests uncomfortably, but her vision is clearing. Breath in her lungs, control coming back to her own body. It’s scary, the way that being so cold can impact your very function. The woman, she’s far older, almost matronly. Selene is more thankful than words can even begin to say. She was safe, tucked against a woman that… well, she reminded the moonscorned of her grandfather. In a good way, of course. Inly in the best way.

Aplos River, it was nearby, she could hear it. There was water moving beneath a sheet of ice, something that she had seen once before. Creed had taught her all about it when winter had fallen over their homeland, he’d warned against her traveling at that time. The old man always worried so much, so deeply… Selene was beginning to understand why. Spirane this name too, was foreign in her brain. She’d try it in her mouth one day, for now she didn’t want to look… weird. ”M...Monument Rapids, across the sea, west of here,” Selene’s knowledge of navigation had led her here. Without it, she may well have drowned.

Her family. Her family. The moonscorned’s words trembled as she spoke, a shaky breath in her lungs. Though she was warming, the question had her a little unsteady. ”My grandfather was taking care of me, n-not my actual grandfather, his um... “ oh jeeze, it was getting harder to actually say the words. ”Creed died, he was old, he was so old, his kids… they blamed me, they chased me off. I tried to help him, they didn’t want anything to do with him while he was getting more and more fragile and just... sorry.” Selene hiccuped. The words came so fast. A dam breaking inside her. She hadn’t been able to say them aloud.

Zelda. Selene likes the way it sounds, the way it flows together in her head. ”Selene, nice to meet you.” Selene Ancora but she supposed that she wasn’t welcome to that surname anymore. It was another thing she’d lost when Creed passed on, something his children had taken away.
