After viewing Al's point of view here's my take on the situation. Yamamoto was absolutely right, war with America was fraught with eventual destruction of Japanese wishes. In 20-20 hindsight, it was a mistake to kill him. However, he was the foremost individual in Japanese hierarchy to do battle with the Americans in the most efficient manner. Therefore, he had to be eliminated. Too bad, because he would have been most instrumental in resurrecting Japanese and American cognitive pursuance post-war. As it was, the ending was satisfactory for both sides. It's a shame that Macarthur was a pet of FDR. Hirohito should have been tried for war crimes along with the rest of them. If FDR had put Nimitz in charge we would have seen a far better outcome.
