At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Now My Watch Begins; It Shall Not End Until My Death

Interacting with a vampire was not something that was new to the male. He had had one encounter in the past, and it had not been some fear inducing traumatic experience. To some surely the thought of one of these creatures was enough to induce terror. But that was not the case with Ghost. Even before his encounter with the other male, he had not been afraid of them. Not anymore than he was afraid of another wolf. He didn’t fear others, but knew realistically that there would be some out there that could cause him harm. Whether they be vampire or not. So to him, there was no reason to fear a vampire just for what they were. His gaze met the other males as he spoke, letting him apologize if he had caused any disruption. Which Ghost had literally been doing nothing. There were things he should be doing. Like finding his young and help raise them. But that was something he was trying not to think about because he had been such a failure as a father. But that was not what he wanted to think about now and he focused back in on the other male.

When the stranger spoke about how others would scream and run, the male felt awkward. Was that what the appropriate response was for this sort of interaction? It just didn’t seem right to him, so he just stood in silence. Waiting for the other to say something else or do something else that could elicit a response. He didn’t know what to do or say otherwise. He didn’t feel the need to state that he didn’t want to run and scream, that much was clear by the fact that he didn’t do just that. Ghost didn’t realize how long he had been standing in silence, contemplating the words of the other about the pack and joining the ranks. And he didn’t notice right away that his prolonged silence was beginning to annoy Rogan. But once he noticed was when he was speaking already, so he let it go and just went on with his question. Why would a stranger want him? Rogan didn’t know him, and so why would he invite him to join?

The male almost jumped when the vampire suddenly laughed? How was what he said funny, and Ghost’s head cocked to the side ever so slightly in confusion. Was what he had said inappropriate? As Rogan explained why he wanted him, it made sense. Ghost clearly was not a member to another pack, so why wouldn’t someone want a strong and healthy adult to join their ranks? And as he said, Ghost had no fear or hatred of vampires. Sure, Rogan could force him to join, but that wouldn’t be as good of a pack member as one who was willingly there and wanted to be there. And he was indeed a good wolf. If he was evil as the stories said then Ghost surely would be dead or tricked into joining by now. Maybe there was a reason to join the ranks of this vampire and his alphess. Even though the logic was there, he was still unsure. He had not been with a pack since he had been with NeMO, and that had been so long ago. He had grown accustomed to living alone, to not reporting to anyone. To having no responsibility and to just do as he pleased. It was not because he didn’t like authority, but it would be a change to get back into that lifestyle again. Was this male and his vampire leader enough to convince him to change his lifestyle?

Somehow, Rogan was able to sense the inner battle that was happening with him. Yes, he was uncertain. His gaze looked up to meet the glowing red gaze of the vampire, who was stepping closer to him. It was not any sort of threat, but seemed more to be testing the waters. How close could he get before Ghost turned tail and run? Well, Rogan could be on top of him and he would not flee. If he wanted to hurt him, he would have done so by now. He was not worried about being useless, he knew that he was a good asset. But he was not a cocky wolf. He had the body of a warrior and the true training of one. He was a fine hunter and would be able to help support any pack. That was not his issue. Was his issue that he wanted what Rogan had? Had Rogan finally brought to light what his inner turmoil was. Would he be jealous being around a group of vampires, wanting to be one of them rather than to just be in their ranks? Did others really want this too? Or was the vampire just saying that to make him feel better? Whatever the truth of the matter about others, he knew he wanted it. He had never felt like he belonged with the wolves that he had encountered before, all except for NeMO of course. Would he fit in better with the creatures of the night? Thoughts swam through his head as he wondered if he was truly insane to ask for this. But Rogan was offering, so would he be foolish not to accept that offer.

After moments of silence again, he forced the words to come out. ”I want you to bite me.” He said the words quickly and almost stumbled over them. They came out in an awkward jumble but they were out there. He had said it and couldn’t take it back. And there was some relief that he felt. This could be what he needed to be accepted, to be happy. To feel normal. And Rogan was the only one that could give him that. Orbs now showed some anxiety. Not anxiety about what was to come, but anxiety in case Rogan denied him. What if he thought him unworthy now? What if he rejected him? All he could do was wait and see. And hope.
