Evren's eyes softened and she gave a little laugh of disbelief when the mare expressed guilt for interrupting their reunion. "No," she said with an emphatic shake of her head, once Persephone had told the mare not to worry. "Please, interrupt away!" Her eyes dropped to the mare's belly, which was looking fit to burst any moment. As eager as Evren was to catch up with Tarek and learn all about the mare he had brought with him, introductions could wait.

Once Tarek had offered and led the pregnant mare away, Evren watched them leave with a mix of emotions churning in her belly. Like Persephone, she too had no reason to doubt that the unborn foal was her nephew's, which meant Evren was about to meet her grand-niece or grand-nephew. With a pang of longing, she thought of her sister Indira and wondered how she would feel to know that she was about to become a grandmother. Evren would have to remember to ask Tarek if he was still in touch with his mother. It had been too long since they had last seen one another.

Finally Evren turned to Persephone with a wide smile on her face, and for a few moments she was speechless. "Wow," she said at last, and chuckled. "I came to speak to you about something, and for the life of me I can't remember what now. It probably wasn't important, anyway."
