Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Arkin flinched a little when she moved so suddenly and then, realizing she was only sinking into a bow, felt rather embarrassed. It wasn’t a gesture he was used to. Come to think of it, he couldn’t recall anyone in the Dredic River Valley ever treating an introduction so formally. He smiled to crack the brief bashfulness he’d felt, hoping she hadn’t noticed. ”Well met, Sila.” He said and truly, he meant it. By some stroke of luck, he had been greeted by her and not by bared teeth as the cautious side of him half expected. She reminded him of someone back home, a…cousin of sorts. Elena. It brought a dose of comfort to him.

As she provided names to these foreign places, he tried to imagine the scenery that might belong to them as well. This place near the river, Aplos she’d called it, was a simple enough beauty to be welcomed to. Arkin had the fresh eye of an outsider and could describe it for others who had lived and seen the lovely place long enough to forget their own first impression. When her muzzle tipped towards the mountains, his eyes followed. He surveyed the direction longer than he intended, wondering all the while if the peaks on this island bred demons too. When he was younger, he remembered, he imagined that all monsters were born in the cliffs. Where he'd come from, it hadn't been far from the truth.

Sila pulled him away from those thoughts, though, with talk of the south and of the sea. He glanced back at the way he’d come. “What do you say we find those spring waters you promised and I’ll tell you about it?” He asked and then added quickly, “Er- That is, if you don’t mind keeping me company a bit longer.” Arkin tried to sound like he would be content regardless of her decision, though he did hope she didn’t have somewhere else to be. “It’s nice to hear someone else’s voice, is all. It was a long and lonely swim.” He half smiled in an attempt to make his confession seem lighter before he continued. “I was born a long way from here, an island called Moon.” Arkin watched her face for any flicker of recognition, though he didn’t expect to see it. He knew he had traveled a long way, but he suspected he was further from Moon and the entire Rhardian chain than he’d ever meant to wander. And perhaps that was all for the best.
