The filly actually looked thoughtful for a moment, growing quiet, and Monster found herself studying her delicate features and that innocent vulnerability she held about her. Would her own daughter look like that if she had one? Would she resember Monster or look more like the father? As long as it didn't look like Monster's father. She hated that ugly bastard. She'd overheard the terms Rougaru gave Liland and she was sure it was troubling the cream stallion to no end. He'd probably give up anything before he'd give up one of his precious daughters. A part of her didn't want Rougaru anywhere near Rayna, though. She was too pure. She wasn't built for his world, or her own. She wasn't being raised to be strong, resilient, independent. Not like Monster was. She would break and it wouldn't be pretty.

When she asked Rayna about her mother, the filly told her that her mom was sleeping. She mentioned someone named Bran and Monster tilted her head. "Is Bran your brother?" Then the filly asked why her father was upset. Monster could only assume she meant Liland. She sighed and rolled her shoulders in a shrug. "He's got a lot of grown up stallion stuff going on with another stallion on the island. Politics, boring stuff, really. It blows over like a storm on the ocean, though, so don't worry too much about it." She offered her own try at a reassuring smile. Then the filly asked if she was mad at Liland for taking her. Monster shook her head with a light chuckle. "No, he's not that bad. I just didn't want to be taken, just like Zjeena didn't want to be taken. I'm not mad at him. This just isn't my home."

Those words felt wrong on her tongue, somehow. She'd never thought she would ever call any place home. Home was a fairy tale, a security blanket to wrap yourself in so you'd feel safe. And yet, she knew it wasn't because Paradise felt like home. It was more about the stallion who lived there, but she wasn't about to admit that to herself. Then the filly surprised her, telling her that she overheard the stallions talking and she knew Liland had to give someone to Rougaru. Rayna admitted to being scared and Monster felt something inside her clench. Her body stiffened as if bracing herself for attack but really it was her instinct to defend the filly. Glancing around as if looking for an enemy to defend Rayna from, she let out a soft snort and lowered her head more to Rayna's level. "Don't worry. He won't take you. He'd have to go through me first and he won't win." She said with a snarky wink.
