bite me

He didn't let the mare's reaction get under his skin too much. She was younger and hadn't been exposed to the nature of the island stallions until now. She had no idea what she was walking into. He knew he wasn't every mare's cup of tea. In fact, he probably wasn't even half, if only cause of his blunt nature. But who shouldn't like it straight forward, instead of all these honeyed tones that led to nothing but deception later on? He could tell with one glance at Rougaru that they weren't too far apart, personality-wise. The only reason he was coming off more charming was cause it made him look better in the moment, but he didn't fool Cain, not one bit. He was a creature of habit and domination as well. It didn't take too much experience in the wild for Cain to recognize that.

Rougaru tried to compliment and soothe her, using little pet names and magical words like it would take her away on some flying carpet into the night. Cain snorted and rolled his eyes. As if. He recognized the fire in the young mare. He looked forward to seeing her grow and develop, and he'd rather do it from the comfort of his own home, where he could keep her out of trouble. He could see Rougaru was used to getting his way, to bullying his way to a mare and he was probably used to stealing the mares right out from under the noses of other stallions. Well, not this stallion. Force claiming was what this part of the island was known for and he would use it as necessary. If she wanted to play stubborn, then he wouldn't give her a choice. He was trying to do things a little differently, to be more forthcoming with mares instead of just charging in and claiming what he wanted. But Rougaru messed all that up. Now he'd have to be the protector, the defender. Even if she didn't want it.

He could sense in Rougaru's body language that he was about to be bold so he moved instead. He sneered in satisfaction as he felt his shoulder collide with the other stallion, effectively moving him, at least enough so Cain could get to Leonid and nip her flank possessively. One ear stayed trained on Rougaru though, knowing he wasn't going to make this go smoothly, so Cain was already braced and ready. He heard the stallion growl and he turned to face him completely, head lowered to protect his vitals while he met Rougaru's gaze evenly, one brow raised as if to say "do something about it." His skin rippled with anticipation, ready to taste another stallion's flesh. As the stallion came at him nipping, he placed himself more between Rougaru and the mare so she didn't get in the crossfire, while not backing more into her space so she didn't feel crowded. See? He was learning. Mares didn't want to be jostled in the middle of two stallions fighting so he'd protect her from that. It was his job, after all.

He felt the stallion's teeth connect with flesh, pinching his shoulder and neck. He grunted in pain but his body shivered with delight, leaning forward into Rougaru's teeth as a sound like a purr left his lips. "That's right, get your little tantrum out of the way, 'lord' Rougaru. Cause I'll be more than happy to put you in time out when you're done." His lips only curled back more, even as the other lifted his fore leg and kicked out, his hoof knocking into Cain's fore leg and causing a nice cut that started to trickle blood. Cain still didn't move, only glancing down to look at the cut before he glanced back at Rougaru. "You done yet?" He kept one ear on Leonid, making sure she didn't try to escape. Even as Rougaru tried to shift toward the mare, Cain snapped his teeth in retaliation, aiming for whatever he could reach of the stallion. If he bit, he would jerked his head side to side, trying to rip and tear the skin before he pulled back, trying to take flesh with him.

He was hungry, after all. But he didn't move from his spot, not giving Rougaru any room to get to Leonid. He continued his tirade, saying Leonid deserved Paradise. He chuckled and tossed his head in response. "Call it what you like but I say don't knock it till you try it. And who are you to tell her what she deserves? Don't pretend like it's about her. We both know who you're thinking of, or rather, what you're thinking with." His brow arched up in challenge, even as humor twinkled in his eyes. As Rougaru lunged for his face and neck, Cain screamed in defiance and swung his head out of reach before slamming it back toward the side of Rougaru's face, aiming to give him a good whap, skull to skull. He needed to learn fast who he was dealing with here. Cain would meet him toe to toe and leave here bleeding with a smile on his face.

He turned his head just a little as Leonid spoke, saying her name once more and correcting them on their names. "Not a fan of pet names, eh? Fine, I'll call you Leonid but you can call me anything you want to." He smirked, sure she'd have a lot of curse words in her vocabulary for what to call him. Most did. At her next words, lecturing him on how to approach mares, he let out a laugh. "You'd be surprised how much better my 'decorum' has gotten, actually. It's hard to be a gentleman while shooing the mutts off the porch." His eyes narrowed then as they looked over Rougaru, making it obvious just who the mutt in question was. He knew she wasn't going to like his rough claim, but he was willing to take that risk and make it up to her later when Rougaru wasn't around. She held her ground when he placed his claiming bite on her flesh, something that impressed him. As she then rose into a rear, he thought he might have to defend himself but instead she turned away right before Rougaru started his tantrum so Cain was able to turn back to him.

When she moved to put some distance between herself and them, Cain would only let her get so far before backing or sidestepping to where he could still reach her if she tried to run. He found that he was actually pretty good at multi tasking. Guess multiple humans coming at you with ropes and cattle prods could do that to you. He was okay with her getting out of harm's way but he wasn't going to be lax enough to give her room to get any funny ideas. He didn't crowd her, but he let her know he wasn't forgetting about her any time soon. He glared at Rougaru and raised his head in dominance, though ready to lower it to protect his vitals if needed. He was making it known that victory was his for the taking, at least in this confrontation. Maybe with a mare not between them to fight over, he could actually see a strong ally in the other stallion, because they were cut from the same cloth in a way. Something to think about, just not today.
