Jetta listens to Bjorn’s words thoughtfully. They are fools, he tells her of her family. Jetta says nothing to this, only suppresses a smile and lowers her eyes. She admires Bjorn’s passion, but she does not see her family as fools… Misguided, perhaps, but they only have her best interests at heart, and she can imagine how frightening their position must be, to see the way she is affected by these visions. It is only natural that they worry for her health.

Jetta continues to listen in silence as Bjorn tells her the meaning of her vision. This is what she has been dying to hear. She feels no pleasure when he informs her of the accuracy of her vision, however, for she can see how much it weighs on him. She nods with understanding as he explains that she had seen his brother, and cannot hide the gleam of surprise in her pale eyes when he says that he had already known that Ivar sought him with the intention of bringing him back to the Norðurland. Jetta ponders whether this is Bjorn’s word for the afterlife, but it doesn’t sound as though it is. If Ivar simply wants to bring Bjorn back to whatever the Norðurland is, then why does Jetta sense something darker?

“This troubles you,” Jetta observes, and watches Bjorn’s face carefully.
