in the time of deceit

Freedom felt good. So good!

She knew anything had to be better than staying one more night in her family’s overbearing embrace, but Ivanna couldn’t have imagined that being alone would be this much ecstasy. Every nerve ending felt alive, zipping and zapping with the potential of it all.

She flew along pell-mell through the misty forest; trees narrowly missing her nubile young body as she careened like a car with a gas pedal locked down. Ivanna chased the mist as it swirled apart in front of her, nostrils flaring wide to take in as much of their invigorating essence as possible. Today was brimming with possibility. For the first time in her existence she could freely choose where she was going to go. She could run here all day, maybe interrupt a few conversations, maybe even join the Amazons. Who knew? Only she could decide it she was madly delighted with it all.

A particularly nimble dodge of a rudely immobile tree forced her from the tree line, and as her pale hooves made the change from decaying leaves to rocks and stones, the sight before her made her skid to a stop. The power of the crashing water drew her in and she was nearly to the base of the falls before she registered the two other equines. A stallion, comically tall compared to herself, and a young filly that looked absolutely nothing like him.

The girl seemed vaguely friend shaped and Ivanna had slowly realized that they were the first creatures she had actually encountered since landing here. Intrigued with the possibility of making a best friend for herself, she loped over paying no mind to the slippery rocks skittering out from underneath her feet. When she arrived – sides heaving and an improbably delighted grin on her face – she placed herself nearest the red filly, but addressed the stallion first.

"Well, she’s not really alone any more, is she?" She turned her charm back to the filly next, flicking the long strands of her tail across her hocks. "She's got us! Or me at least. Jury's still out on you. I didn’t even know horses could get that tall."

With a cocked head, the excited yearling turns her attention back to the stallion, craning her gaze upwards to meet his.
