Arkana’s heart leaps into her chest when every stallion’s eye suddenly falls on her. She freezes like a deer in headlights, and when one stallion moves closer to her, she tenses to flee. But he only stands in front of her, his rump blocking her vision of the other stallion. Arkana does not understand why he has done this until she hears his hard words. It takes her a moment to register what he has said, what with the unfamiliar language he uses, but then her lips part in confusion. Why would the other stallion want to touch her?
Her insides quiver with fear as the stallions clash once more, yet she cannot tear her eyes away from the sight - at least not until she notices the third stallion, who had also been watching the fight, approach her. Her brown eyes are wide and her small ears are laced back against her skull as she steps backwards, away from him, only to find herself pressed up against the tree she had been hiding next to. Its rough bark scrapes against the delicate skin of her hindquarters, and she wants to cry out in pain, but the intimidating presence of the stallion looking down at her stops her.
“I’m smart,” she retorts, but her voice is full of uncertainty. “Who are you? Why are you all fighting? Mama says fighting isn’t nice.”
