Boss's Decree

"For every brother you bring to our
midst, you may keep a trinket all to
yourself. She will not be sullied or traded, unless you deem otherwise. But should you bring a mare here without a new brother first, then I will consider her property of the Lagoon as a whole
and do with her as I see fit." - Garmr

Rules

• The Lagoon is where homeless stallions come to live as a brotherhood. Mares may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Soldiers keep mainly to fighting, Thieves keep mainly to raiding, and Associates may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Marauder or Boss for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Boss maintains order within the Lagoon and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Lagoon works on the Rules page.

• Upon election, the Boss can issue a rule for members to follow during their tenure. It is up to leadership to enforce.

KENDRY
Kendry had expected the little brown mare to tell him that everyone was on holiday, or a raid, or something fairly innocuous. Full blown war? On the Islands? His ears flick backward in bewilderment as he tries to reconcile that idea with the image he’s always had of hhis homeland. Golden, windblown meadows and the gentle stirring of thickly canopied trees in the distance does not make a good backdrop for blood and violence. He shakes his head and peers at her with a small frown, but even the tiny part of him that suggests she might be lying doesn’t believe she’s spinning a tale.

It makes him think about the substantial difference between his weight and height and that of the mare before him. Kendry outweighs and towers over the majority of horses on the islands, but it has never occurred to him to use that to influence others. If what this mare says is true... He tries to put himself in that mindset, to understand what it might be like to hold one’s power aloft and claim this entitles me to that, and then wield it with the intent to harm, but it is foreign to Kendry.

And the idea that stallions are better than mares —or vice versa— is absolute folly.

He snorts and flips his ears forward. “Well,” he says thoughtfully. “What a time to return home. I’d no idea our islands are at war.” Kendry blinks and turns his frown to face the open water. “Perhaps they were not raised by strong women,” he muses aloud, thinking of Marlena’s competence and grace. “Whether by neglect or a clash of personalities, who’s to say? But that’s no excuse,” he continues, shaking his head and facing the mare again as he continues ponderously, “Perhaps it is not pride that drives them, but a fear of loss of power. But.... That doesn’t explain the Lagoon’s involvement. As long as I’ve known them the bachelors have harried the territories and the Peak alike. Where, then, did this unity come from?”

He shakes his head again, then eyes her curiously. “What keeps you here, then? If ever you were going to leave, this seems like the best time.”
