Government Payouts to Unemployed individuals During Coronavirus Crisis Posted on 3/18/2020 at 16:43:19 by Bill Crawford, (14)
Much has been written about the need for the government to send money directly to eligible citizens during the Coronavirus crisis. The principal suggestion that has been mentioned thus far is that of sending every eligible person $1,000.
It seems to me that a more reasonable (but more expensive) approach would be to increase each individual's monthly unemployment benefits payout to the level of that individual's paycheck, as opposed to the current policy of paying a percentage of that paycheck--about 60 percent.
Or, at a minimum, increase the percentage of the payout to 75% of the individual's paycheck.
As specified under the current law, this payout would continue for a maximum of twenty six weeks.
(I guess this might prove to be too expensive). Replies:
