This counted as putting in an appearance didn’t it? After a sort of argument with her mother, Evelyn had promised to at least come to the party. She’d spent the first few moments with her mother being wonderfully awkward and had since found her way to hiding on the edges of the party. Avoiding the throngs hadn’t been exactly easy but apparently, she was doing well, excelling at it even. For Evelyn it was always somewhat difficult to hide from people when her looks seemed made to catch their eyes. If it was not her own mismatched eyes that begged people to pay attention then the flaming red hair caught more than a passing glance. She should have been used to the stares as they studied where the red stretched onto her skin. What it did was make her uncomfortable.

For the briefest of moments, she’d entertained the idea that the coronation would be fine, she could linger near her mother or auntie Ana. Next to them she was less interesting and other than the watchful eyes she’d have been safe and comfortable in their presence. That wasn’t too be. Auntie Ana was very busy and her mother had been stolen. So here Evelyn was floating on the edges, wondering if it was acceptable to slink away yet. She was sure neither her mother nor Ana would mind if she did. Besides she’d be much happier hiding in her room with Mr Boots than out here by herself.

Evie’s mind now made up she was about to make a quick dash out of there when something wonderful happened. She was accosted by one gorgeously excited and happy dog. Tail wagging ninety to the dozen here it came dashing about sniffing here and there, attention span gloriously short in that puppy way. Evie was quick to try and catch it’s attention by whistling softly and leaning to pat her knees with her hands. “Come on,” she grinned for the second time that night, the first being when Phoenix said she looked pretty. That grin had been embarrassed and flustered though, this one was bright and only grew larger as her summoning methods worked and the dog came scurrying up to her.

“Hi you, where’d you come from huh?” Evie doesn’t bother looking up, she honestly doesn’t care where the dog’s come from her night had just instantly hit it’s high. As far as she’s concerned if no one shows up for it, its now hers. Her mother may say something about that in the morning but until then she can dream. Those plans of adopting a new pet and the logistics of such a thing are quickly cut short by the arrival of its presumed owner. Evie is busy in the act of supporting the dogs body weight with her legs whilst scratching its ears and barely glances up at the new figure who’s just run up. Oh well that’s her plans scuppered; never mind.

“An extrovert huh? She’s beautiful,” Evie appears to be speaking to the dog more than the boy but Sport was being very demanding of her attention. To the point that eventually Evie gave in and sank down to her knees and quickly became a clambering post as she received some very enthusiastic licks to her chin. She was still laughing as the dog calmed down slightly to enjoy the petting it was getting. “Hi Sport, aren’t you a good girl then?” for her part Sport seems to agree with Evie. The girl now turns her gaze up to the owner, maybe she’d been rude paying more attention to the dog. She couldn’t exactly fix that now and besides speaking to Sport was just easier. People were hard. What was she supposed to do now? “How old is she? Have you had her since she was a little puppy?” asking a myriad of questions about the dog, that was standard and probably something he was used to… maybe too used to. “Sorry, I bet everyone asks you that…” Evie instantly wishes she has a better question to ask but typically can’t think of one. “Are you enjoying the party?” … well that was lame.
