A grin spreads across her face.
“For a little, eh?”
That was absolutely pitiful, Leyra! You can do better than that, come on, she berates herself, as she shakes her head and leans away from him. The grin falls, and her eyes lose their bright shine. There wasn’t much fun about this, and he seemed to be quite lacking in a sense of humour.
So, she leans back and steps away from him, deliberately, just to see what will happen as she seems to collect herself like maybe she was pondering deeply his offer. In truth, Leyra knew that this was it, but she wasn’t ready to just go on ahead.
How boring.
“Come on, you can do better than that. I give you something at least a little bit funny, and you respond with some deadpanned and rehearsed speech? Something you’ve apparently said a number of times before. Does it ever work straight away?”
It wasn’t in aggression or in distress she asked him this, but genuine curiosity. This was evidenced by her eyes and the way she held herself despite taking the step. That step had simply been to place more distance between them, so she might watch all on him rather than just his face.
“You’re going to have to do better than that,” she then adds in a slightly sing-song voice, as her grin returns to her face.
A challenge. If he got aggressive about it, let him. Leyra was ready to play the game she knew if she needed to.
