Hi everyone,
I feel that I owe everyone an apology, and I wanted to do it from me personally, rather than as a mod.
Firstly, I am sorry for the incredibly hostile atmosphere that has pervaded TLI over the past couple days. I know it has made a lot of you uncomfortable, to the point where players have quit or stepped back from the community for their mental health. Chaos and I have always prioritised making TLI a safe and friendly space for everyone, and I'm incredibly saddened that that's been tainted. Regardless of any disagreements or any genuine issues that needed to be brought to our attention, the way it was handled was not okay. Most of us are all adults and have been roleplaying for a decade, if not longer. What I saw yesterday reminded me of the toxic behavior that was present in the community 10+ years ago (which I must admit I was also a part of), and it was scary to see. I haven't felt so ashamed in a long time. Chaos and I are still investigating the situation and will be giving out warnings and bannings as needed. If any of you have any information that could help us, please let us know, with evidence if possible.
Secondly, I am sincerely sorry for creating an atmosphere in which some of you felt that you could no longer come to Chaos or me with your complaints, or that we were leaving situations unaddressed or failing to be transparent. We ALWAYS listen to each and every person who comes to us and at the very least discuss it together to decide what, if anything, needs to be done. All of this goes unseen by the public eye in order to protect players' privacy, so I can understand if it looks as though, on the surface, we are doing nothing. If there are situations we don't look into, it's only because we're unaware of them (it is so, so hard to keep up with TLI given the current activity). If any of you genuinely feel as though your complaints have not been addressed, or if there are situations we missed, please, please tell us. I was not aware of how many situations there have been in which players have clashed and felt their only option was to vent to each other rather than come to us about it. Had we known the severity of the situation, we would have taken greater action. I am so, so sorry this is the case, and I will try to do better.
This is a community that I have loved and been a part of, off and on, since 2010. I consider many of you my close friends and care deeply about the environment we have fostered here. The world is currently an incredibly scary place, and I know many of you come here to escape. I want nothing more than to protect that for all of you. I am not perfect, but I am trying, and I want to continue trying so that you all have a safe space to come to. If you ever feel there are any situations that I have overlooked and require further attention, please help me resolve them by maintaining an open line of communication. I care about all of you.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has privately sent Chaos and I kind words. Your support has really helped get us through this incredibly upsetting situation.
