Hello, World

He, too, sought the silence away from others, at least for a little while. He could feel the sadness settling over his father and the Desert like a giant blanket, smothering them all in its darkness and he didn't like it. It was suffocating. Seeing dead bodies was a new and harrowing experience for him and he was sure to stay back at a distance, sure that his father wouldn't want him to be up close and personal with it anyway. They hadn't spoken about it yet, but he was at least old enough to know that Geneva and the filly were never going to wake up. He had eyes and he saw them not moving. He saw his father dragging the bodies toward where he buried Zubeia. He understood what it all meant, even if it still felt far away, like he was putting it all in its own little separate compartment.

He no longer had Legolas to lean on as a friend and companion. He was left to explore the Desert alone as the only foal besides the new colt that clung to his father's side like a new spot on his coat. Akello knew it was his half brother and he knew the colt wasn't doing good. He feared what would happen to him but knew there was nothing he could do to help so he gave his father space for now to do what he needed to do and set out across the dunes to do his own thinking. That's when he saw the dark gray mare off by herself. She, too, seemed to be wandering aimlessly, and he couldn't let the moment pass without doing something. He had seen the black mare and this one swim onto the shores of the Desert with his father a few days ago and he'd been curious of them but held back, not wanting to steal the spotlight. Sure, his father was big and strong, but he would be, too, some day.

He liked meeting new horses and learning how to interact. Since his mother left to visit her family on Luthien, he hadn't had much for female company and he missed the soft feminine voice a mare could give. Deciding to take his chances, he gave a whicker of greeting to the mare as he trotted closer. Pricking his ears, he gave a little toss of his head and snorted softly, stopping a few feet away before reaching his muzzle out to take in her scent. "Hi! I'm Akello. I've seen you around. Your eyes are stunning." The words just came right out and he had no intention of taking them back. They were almost gold in color and they were mesmerizing. They stood out like the sand of the Desert against her dark coat. Surely she had to know and if no one had told her before, it was a shame.
