Cain didn't think of Scarecrow as inferior or beneath him. He respected and admired the older stallion and liked to think he was earning that as well from his Second. Of course, he wouldn't force anyone to bow to him and he was glad for the taller stallion's observance when it came to dangers in the herdlands or visitors that needed attention. Scarecrow had only proven himself as helpful so far since Cain took him in and he only saw good reasons for inviting the stallion to live here. Maslakhat seemed interested when the paint stallion admitted he saw Akello speaking to a black mare. It sounded like the mare might be the one he was looking for. Cain was intrigued, wondering if she ran away or if she was just a wanderer and hadn't checked in for a while. Maybe Maslakhat just wanted to make sure she was okay.

He wanted to give the bay Akhal Teke the benefit of the doubt in this case. The draft dipped his head when Maslakhat thanked him but when Cain offered to help look for her, the bay told him he couldn't burden him like that and acknowledged the tragedy he spoke of, even offering a moment of silence for the deaths. The tobiano felt a flicker of respect for the gesture though he could see the curiosity in the stallion's eyes when he offered his own assistence. Cain offered a smile and a sigh before speaking. "Alas, the three graves speak for themselves but the wolves that attacked are no more and will not get past our defenses again. I'll make sure of it." His eyes darkened with promise as he said it. He would be more vigilant and they wouldn't slip past again.

He noted the stallion then turned as if to leave though he was polite and looked back to make sure there was nothing else. His gaze turned to Scarecrow then as his Second spoke, saying they could ask after her in the Crossing and asked if they could mention his name. Cain pricked his ears toward the bay at that, wondering at his response. Once the talking was done, he dipped his head in farewell to Maslakhat. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Maslakhat, and I hope our herds continue to live and prosper. May we meet again some day."
