This begs the question, why have DEF and DVA waited so long if the nation was so grateful?
Seems this has become common practice to delay and procrastinate for as long as possible in the hope that as many potencial recipients will have died.
The most glaring example being the "RAAF Thailand medal" that was instituted by HM King Rama IX and presented to all members of 79SQN who were at RTAF Base Ubon during the Vietnam war. The few members left are still waiting for the AUS government to give approval to wear it!
