For some reason, the vanner stallion was restless and he couldn't put his hoof on why. He knew the season was probably part of it. After all, his hormones were going crazy with the cooler weather. He had been approached by Melisma and Harlequin so far and he was honored that they would come to him for children. He loved being a father and couldn't wait to see if the breeding had taken hold. Meanwhile, he had noticed some peculiar things around the desert. For one, he could smell the young stallion who once challenged him for Cerosi, Ironclad. Cain had nothing against the young stallion, but was interested in his relationship with the gray mare who called the desert home. Were they friends? The mare didn't seem too pleased to find out the young stallion had challenged him. Did she forgive him?

Second, he noticed Cerosi didn't carry the scent of a mare in heat anymore. He wondered who she had approached this Fall, but didn't want to come across as controlling so he held his tongue. His mares were in no hold beholden to bear him children. He wanted all of them to know that and hoped that they already did. Did that mean he wanted them to go out and find other stallions to breed with? Not particularly, but he knew he couldn't have it both ways. Besides, he would still raise the child as his own, even if it wasn't his. That is, if Cerosi would continue to live here. He knew he might need to talk to her sooner rather than later, let her know that he wasn't mad at her and she could still call this place home if she wanted to. A part of him was more afraid of losing anyone else, afraid she might decide another herd was better, another stallion better.

The paint stallion shook his head of the dark thoughts as he patrolled the herd lands. He was also wondering what Akello was up to. When would he see his son again? He heard rumors that Shamwari was gone. Was his son still in the prairie? Was Vihaan? He could never stop his thoughts from roaming to the dunalino beauty. She would always be the one that got away. It didn't mean he didn't care for his herd mares any less, but she was one of the first, the one he got the closest to, the one who lowered his guards and knew all his secrets, bad and good. She helped change him into the stallion he was. Cain knew he needed to get back out the crossing. Maybe finding more mares to bring home would cheer everyone up. He liked that the herd was becoming more like a united family, but his restlesss energy told him there was much left to do.
